“Whatever the problem is, it comes from a thought pattern and thought patterns can be changed!”- Louise Hay

I first learnt about positive affirmations from reading the book by Louise Hay called,“You Can Heal Your Life”. Each chapter opens up with a new affirmation that Louise suggests you spend two or three days working on, and by writing down and saying the affirmation daily you will start to see results.

The main cause of all our problems, she believes, is not loving the self. For example:

Problem                                               Belief

Financial disaster                             I am not worthy of having money

No friends                                          Nobody loves me

Problems with work                       I am not good enough

Poor health                                        Illness runs in our family

Louise says “Stop for a moment and catch your thought. What are you thinking right now? If it is true that your thoughts shape your life, would you want what you were thinking right now to become true for you?”

The way she explains it so that you can visualize how much choice we really have:  “Imagine yourself in line at a cafeteria, or perhaps at a buffet in a luxurious hotel, where instead of dishes of food there are dishes of thoughts. You get to choose any and all the thoughts you wish. These thoughts will create your future experiences.”

The book has a part called A Session with Louise , in which there are exercises  on different things such as letting go , not letting the past hold you back,  forgiveness,  revenge and what daily work you need to do to make changes.  You also learn to put these ideas to work and how to attract love, success, prosperity, a  great work environment and body,  all through positive affirmations.

What really captured my attention when I picked up this book was that Louise Hay believes that every illness in our body is caused by our thoughts and underlying issues that we haven’t dealt with. “Exploring the way that limiting thoughts and ideas control and restrict us, she offers us a powerful key to understanding the roots of our physical disease and discomforts”

There is an index at the back of the book with every type of illness and what she believes is the cause. She says, “Every single cell within your body responds to every single thought you think and every word you speak.”  My previous post is about how this has been tested by Masaru Emoto , check it out to see how crystals in frozen water formed differently when spoken to with love and kindness as opposed to water spoken to with hatred.

Despite the millions that swear by Louise Hay’s positive affirmation methods and have personally been healed by her coaching, there are those too who think that it is ridiculous that we should think we have bought illness or disease upon ourselves.

Further to the book “You Can Heal Your Life” , there is a film under the same title, which includes Gay Hendricks; Esther and Jerry Hicks; Dr Wayne Dwyer and Doreen Virtue, who all contributed to the film and ultimately 100% agree that we create our own universe with thoughts and words.

I do strongly agree with positive affirmations and I believe that they can truly make a difference. To read some great affirmations go to her website Louise Hay- Affirmations. I also have a board in my Pinterest Unite-and-Inspire ,with a large selection of positive affirmations 🙂

I would be interested to hear what you think about the fact that she believes we can heal ourselves and look forward to reading any comments 🙂
